Founding Shadow Constellations
years working with people
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.” – C.G. Jung
If you have been working with people for a while, then you would have probably experienced that something happens or fails to happen that you can only see how it acts out but cannot see the invisible dynamics that created it. This invisible dynamics can show itself in many ways.
You may react to a client’s accusation with hurt, denial, or anger instead of compassion and care and cannot wait for the client to leave, or you may feel out of depth or just dislike the client and prefer to refer them to someone else.
The room may feel heavy, frozen or helpless for no apparent reason, as if something is strongly pulling you into action, reaction or avoidance which does not feel right, such as topics of sexuality, aggression or death that cannot be touched or at least not as deeply as the client needs them to be touch with…
You may feel unstable or overconfident, or be attracted to a client or angry at their partners, or forget what happened in the last session.
These aren't failures of technique or lack of skill. They are the results of ‘Systemic Shadow Dynamics’. It is what either of you deny, repress and disown in yourself that runs invisibly in the room until it reaches the surface when it’s already a little too late.
Your ‘Systemic Shadow Dynamics’ include your own shadows as well as shadows of your families, tribes, cultures and collectives.
It is who you are, your presence, your degree of distinction and how consciously you are in touch with your own shadows that literally shapes the form and the depth of the space you can offer and safely hold.
Over 50% of what interferes with the healing and learning of our clients and students stems from our disowned shadow.
Be it anger, rage, fear, guilt or grief, be it survival or realization, a personal pain or a relationship challenge, It is through what we can embody that our clients learn the best that it is possible for them too.
Our clients and students will intuitively sense our shadow (and Trauma) fault lines and unconsciously align themselves with our shadow as doing this can feel safe, even if it is the complete opposite of what they need to do.
This training is a year-long journey, to aid students to learn, to sense and connect with invisible currents in real time and help them reach as close to these invisible currents as possible, so that they can build a space-holding presence that is both safe and deep.
This training is an invitation to connect with our own invisible depth with compassion and clarity, so that it will effectively improve the way you hold people, your personal life and relationships.
Every moment spent in integrating with our shadow is a moment of expansion, deep healing and growth on multiple dimensions.
Shadow Constellations by Carl Jung, Bert Hellinger and Embodiment weaved together in novel ways
Carl Jung spoke about the shadow – shadow is everything in us that gets disowned, denied, pushed out of sight because it once felt too shameful, endangered our belonging and our sense of being loved and appreciated.
Carl Jung also explained to us that there is something larger than the individual psyche: a collective unconscious, archetypal forces that move through all of us, without conscious awareness.
Bert Hellinger highlighted that we are never just ourselves. Through Family and Systemic Constellations, he explained the intergenerational loyalties, exclusions and unfinished stories, that we carry from those who came before us - another system larger than the self, working quietly beneath our conscious awareness and choice. Hellinger integrated soul-level, systemic-family oriented and shamanic dimensions into this work.
Embodiment brought us the body as more than a machine that needs to be maintained. It teaches us that the body is a source of wisdom and the vessel of our life. The body speaks through sensations and felt-sense and through symptoms. The body remembers its history and interacts without words with others. The body also has boundaries, needs, limits to its capacity, inherent healing mechanisms. The body is a source of truth and knowing.
Weaving the threads of these three pillars together, to connect the body, psyche, mind, soul, spirit and other dimensions for more than twenty years is Nir Esterman’s innovation. He has equally respected and has been simultaneously in touch with multiple dimensions as well as with the unconscious layers of the family, tribe and culture, as much as possible in real time, in relation to his clients and students and the people they serve.
Shadow Constellations is an experiential modality, one that requires Students to go beyond theoretical understanding of what happened into the actual mechanism of what is happening. It involves your body - breath, posture, gut feeling and your felt sense; it teaches you to sense before there are words, to feel subtle shifts and to work with the underlying invisible dynamics in the room in practical, effective ways.
Belonging expanded: Hellinger revealed to us that belonging is a fundamental right - that everyone in a family or tribe, even those excluded, forgotten, born into shame and even unborn, has an equal right to belong, and that there are consequences for all the family members when this belonging is violated.
Shadow Constellations extends this fundamental principle of Bert Hellinger to include our inner self-parts. Every part of ourselves has the same right to belong. When we exclude some of these self-parts because we felt that they had no place in our family of origin, we internalized a systemic exclusion, which creates far-reaching consequences in our lives and our relationships. Family healing and self-integration turn out to be the same movement, seen from different directions.
Enhancing what you already have: This training is built to connect, deepen and enrich your existing modalities. It is a toolbox supporting what you already use. The mature, embodied, distinct and relational presence it builds will reshape how you hold space and what your clients and students can be safely in touch with. It teaches you to understand the underlying mechanisms of relationships in the healing arts and beyond. It gives you practical ways to embrace your wisdom through building an inner supervisor that is always there with you.
Systemic Shadow Consciousness is what this training fosters in you: a way of perceiving and holding the space and the Shadow that is compassionate, embodied, multi-dimensional, and awake to the personal, intergenerational and collective currents in a synergistic manner that creates something larger than the sum of training in each of these individual threads. It is less of a technique and is more of a way of being present, which makes a profound difference for your clients and students.
You already hold space for other people's healing, growth, or transformation - as a therapist, coach, facilitator, teacher, healer, or leader in the healing arts and personal development world. You care deeply about your clients, your students and your work.
Yet, you experience some or all of the following
Challenging moments, dynamics and relationships which are an integral part of the professional helper path but still make you wish that some clients left or that you could refer them elsewhere. There are topics you secretely wish that the clients will not bring. There are clients who choose others over you because they intuitively feel you cannot hold space for certain challenging topics they need to deal with.
You have had ruptures that caught you by surprise and that you were unable to repair in real-time, or there were power dynamics with clients or students that led to them feeling hurt despite your best intentions and even despite taking supervision.
You may be still carrying the scars of these ruptures years later, because you care so much. And maybe also because you have not yet made peace with that perpetrator energy that is hiding in your shadow...
Taking this training will not make these and other challenges disappear. Nor will they give you a 100% sure way to working with them. However, it will support you in decreasing the number of challenges, identifying them in advance, recovering faster and turning them into repair and healing opportunities that will transform the challenges, the therapeutic alliance and yourself.
This training is for you if you are ready to stop meeting those challenges with intuition, theory or hope alone, and to build, instead, a real, embodied, trustworthy presence - one that will let you go deeper with the clients you already have, hold the ones you currently cannot, and carry your own growth as far as your professional skill.
You don't need prior training in Shadow work or Family Constellations - everything foundational is built from the ground up.
You do need some existing professional training and experience in therapy, coaching, teaching, or facilitation.
The webinar includes an exxperiential Shadow Constellations process
This training focuses first on you, your Shadows, your triggering, your creativity, your leadership and power, your fear, your guilt, your shame and rage, your invisible depth, your growth.
While every lesson will offer new perspectives and tools to work with both yourself and your clients, the focus is geared towards helping you to build the presence, capacity, skill and confidence to own and handle your shadows first and only then, from that deep personal experience, lead others through their own shadow journey.
What makes the difference in the room is your presence - your consciousness, your stance, your sensitivity, your relational and systemic distinction - they allow you to notice in real-time, just as the Shadow phenomena are happening, or shortly after, when they can still effectively be named and used to facilitate deeper and safer work.
A trauma-informed perspective is something that needs to live in your body from your personal experience, as something closer to instinct and deeply rooted in practice rather than theoretical understanding.
That is what this year builds for you. Every piece of Shadow you integrate along the way - your own personal material, and the systemic patterns running underneath it - is one less thing left that can unconsciously capture you in a session.
By the end of the year, you will be able to:
All of us who hold space for others have, at some point, held it imperfectly.
We mis-attuned and failed to respond with empathy or offered things the client didn’t want or need… and we did not even notice we were doing it.
The braver clients, and those who felt safe enough with us told us. Others simply did not come back or tragically limited themselves to what we could handle well.
There is a special kind of pain we experience when we realize that we have hurt or allowed hurt to come to someone we were holding. A pain we carry with us deep in our hearts.
Nir Esterman looked deeply at what made him hurt or be pulled into taking part in re-enacting painful dynamics. In addition to his own experiences, on both ends of power dynamics, he listened to many stories shared by his clients, students, colleagues and teachers, with the intention of learning from them. This is one of the deeper roots of the Shadow Constellations training.
We can and should become far more conscious of our own shadow and how it shapes the dynamics in therapy, facilitation and learning. This is essential so that our unexamined power dynamics effect will be as small as possible and so that we can recover from them more easily and make amends in real time.
In the Core Shadow Constellations Training you will receive a set of professional skills and tools which are deeply, intelligent, practical and effective.
The skills and the tools are the spearhead. The body of this metaphorical spear is made up of perspective, reflection and presence.
This training is a way of taking seriously the responsibility of being trusted with someone else’s healing and well-being.
Embodied relational presence – The shadow reveals itself most clearly in relationships. You will learn to deeply listen to your body as a source of wisdom, as a compass that directs you to the invisible shadow dynamics in the room, regardless of with whom they began. You will learn to become more embodied and to sense your shadows and to integrate with them through your body.
Systemic & multi-dimensional awareness – shadow triggering isn’t a personal flaw – it is a systemic adaptation rooted in the traumas of the earlier generations. You will learn to see how the shadow is formed and how it affects many dimensions all at once. You will learn to navigate skilfully the ways that transforms entanglements into conscious, free, differentiated relationships with others and within yourself.
Depth held safely – You will learn to match the depth you can reach with a container strong enough to hold it. You will develop the capacity to stay grounded and present through helplessness, grief, aggression and complex trauma, along with repairing a rupture rather than being captured by it.
Working with shadows require a trauma informed perspective so that depth and safety can be both present and actually grow from the same root.
Facilitator maturity and distinction – You will learn to develop the ability to hold the space with a mature, compassionate and distinct presence. You will learn to be clearly differentiated while remaining deeply connected and will be able to be close without merging, to deal with conflict without disconnecting. You will learn to identify and release yourself from unconscious roles you are in with your clients and students by becoming systemically distinct.
The curriculum of this training is spiral. Over the six modules in the duration of six immersive weekends in Mumbai, and with the guided practice online between them, you will return again and again to meet your own shadows.
First from a personal perspective, then from a general space holding perspective and finally as a Shadow Constellations practitioner or facilitator.
It is not just the angle and the depth that changes, you are changed. Each time you return more integrated, more mature, more fully yourself than the last time you walked this area of your shadow scape.
A rich blend of embodied practices, experiential process learning,
personal structures, peer practice, group sessions and practical theory.
The first two weekends are for the foundations and your personal, family and systemic shadows, symptoms, triggering, patterns, exclusions and unspoken histories. You will develop your embodied presence and learn the felt-sense of your own Shadow materials.
The 3rd and 4th weekends are for developing your space holding skills, your presence and your systemic shadow consciousness from a space holder point of view. You will learn, experience and practice a variety of shadow constellations structured processes and how to bring your embodied presence into the relationships with your clients and students.
The 5th and 6th weekends are for gaining a higher level of maturity in your facilitation and degree of distinction. You will work more explicitly with traumatic shadows and more intense emotions, identify influences that originate from beyond your personal, family and culture, and receive masterclasses in advanced topics such as shamanic, collective and romantic-relationship shadow constellations.
This spiral curriculum is consciously built to take you through the learning process in a way that builds a strong and deep foundation in a safe way, a way that models the facilitation of shadow constellations. When you later hold this work for a client, you will be doing it from the inside, having been held yourself.
That is also why the training includes far more than the weekends themselves: weekly peer practice, guided journaling and reflection, a supervised practicum of 20 sessions, direct sessions with Nir Esterman and his senior assistant team, and a monthly online group Q&A, so real questions and real client situations stay part of the process throughout the training.

I’m Nir Esterman (M.Sc), The founder of Shadow Constellations,
I have dedicated more than twenty years to developing how to teach therapists, facilitators, teachers and professional helpers to work more deeply and more safely, with a wider range of people and issues.
Coming from a scientific bacgroundf I am fascinated by the underlying mechanisms of what affects our life and with developing new ways to understand and work with them. I want to know that what I develop and teach works in real life and real relationships.
Coming from many hours of watching people as a child and teenager, and learning to come into my body only in my late twenties, I cherish embodiment, body presence and compassion as a lived experience.
Coming from two amazing parents who survived the Holocaust as small children and built a solid, safe home for our family, I developed a humanistic perspective and learned the importance of safety, connection, support and caring.
Coming from going through lymphatic cancer at the age of 22, and from growing up in Israel, I learned some intimate things about death, about living more fully and as much as possible in the present moment, and about realizing what matters and following it.
Some of my influences
My first modality was the Grinberg Method. I taught myself Shadow work following Jungian perspectives, and learned Family Constellations with Sakino Mathilde Sternberg and the Constellation Path Institute founded by Yishai Gaster. I also learned Reiki, reflexology, a bit of shamnism and experienced many forms of healing.
I am a faculty member of the Constellation Path Institute and the International Family Constellation Facilitator Training, and a member of ISCA and IPASC professional organizations. I teach at various international institutes and conferences.
I am looking forward to meeting you and walking you through the Shadowlands.

“A wonderful, empowering, and enlightening training, with an excellent, attentive and big-hearted teacher.
Shadow Constellations is a unique and remarkable method for understanding oneself and one’s clients and for therapeutic work. It is one of the best courses I have ever taken in my long life – both as a therapist and for understanding my own inner world.”
Dudy Kaufman, Israel.
“Nir’s course was inspiring, very well-informed, and urgently relevant to my study of how to work more effectively in the Knowing Field. It takes courage to invite others to study what we do not want to look at. And it takes skill to keep that endeavor calm and productive.
Nir has both courage and skill. He teaches by example and offered me a clear model of how to shine a light on the darker, hidden areas of my personality and my life.”
Jessica, United States
“Without a doubt, if more people would have even a little glimpse into this kind of work, the world would be a much, much different place.”
Anca, UK.
“The training with Nir Esterman was a deeply enriching professional experience. The teaching was clear, experiential, and thoughtfully paced, allowing systemic and phenomenological principles to be integrated with depth and ease.
Nir’s calm, grounded presence and precise facilitation created a safe, well-held learning environment where both personal insight and professional growth could unfold naturally. I leave with refined clinical understanding, greater confidence in facilitation, and a deeper trust in systemic intelligence.”
Dr. Manorama Patwardhan, India. Constellation Therapist & Counselling Psychologist
“Nir’s work fundamentally changed how I understand and work with shadow. What once felt dark or intimidating is now clear, workable, and deeply human. The training didn’t just offer concepts – it created embodied shifts.
In the very first session, the idea for my Freedom Embodiment Constellation emerged, clearly revealing my own capacity and what I’m here to bring into the world.
The emphasis on observing rather than absorbing has transformed both my constellation practice and my everyday life, allowing me to stay present without getting captured.
Watching Nir facilitate group constellations was masterful – precise, grounded, and deeply attuned to what the field required in each moment.
As someone who trains trainers, I was particularly struck by the calm authority and spaciousness he brings, which allows profound material to surface without force.
The result is genuine integration, greater inner peace, and far fewer reactive patterns. This work delivers exactly what it promises – and more.”
Deonizia, Mumbai, India
“This work should be learned by every professional, worldwide.”
Yifa Maitri Hazut, Israel
“This course feels like it should be part of the required curriculum for practitioners…
It so clarified my questions about professional boundaries and the energetic pieces of sessions… transference, countertransference and the like. It also allowed and invited an incredible amount of self-reflection, required to renew one’s certificate every year.
As I think I said, I’ve been practicing cranial work for about 20 years and with what I absorbed in this training—I am now the best possible cranial practitioner I can be. It feels wonderful to start and conduct a session with that knowing and stability.”
